O.C. PLATFORM : Crime on the Move

When I first moved to Orange County, I felt relief. I could take evening walks and not have to keep looking over my shoulder to make sure someone wasn’t following me. But those days are gone.

Whether Orange County could remain insulated from crime and violence was something deep down inside I knew would be impossible. Crime, no matter where you live, is a fact of life in these times. I thought I could escape. But I only postponed the inevitable.

Sure, I could pack up and move to Utah. I understand the crime rate is very low there. But I love where I live and I don’t want to move. I know that moving will not solve the problems we all face: crime and violence are becoming fixtures in our society.

I will not let myself be intimidated by thugs and criminals. I still take my walks, though I’m a bit more cautious. I still feel safe in my home, but I have a security system now. Sad but true, we live in different times. But moving away will not help.
