COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Kevin Smith Scores Again, UC Irvine Remains Unbeaten in Men’s Soccer

Kevin Smith, Scott Smith and Manny Hernandez each scored for UC Irvine in a 3-2 nonconference men’s soccer victory over Fresno Pacific Wednesday at UC Irvine.
Kevin Smith is now three goals shy of the UCI career record of 19 set by Ken Gunn (1984-85). Goalkeeper Chris Taylor had nine saves for the Anteaters (3-0). Fresno Pacific is 3-2.
In other nonconference men’s soccer:
Cal State Dominguez Hills 3, Chapman 1 (OT)--Chapman played its second consecutive overtime match, but lost when Dominguez Hills scored twice in the extra period. Scott Zinser had eight saves for the Panthers (2-1, 1-1 in the CCAA). Dominguez Hills is 3-3, 1-0. Kirk Feiereisen scored Chapman’s only goal in the second half to force the overtime.
In nonconference women’s soccer:
Cal State Dominguez Hills 6, Chapman 0--Former Dana Hills player Briana O’Dowd made three saves to gain her third shutout of the season for host Cal State Dominguez Hills (4-1, 1-0) in the CCAA conference opener. The Toros, the top-ranked NCAA Division II team, had a 4-0 lead over Chapman (1-3, 0-1) at halftime.
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
UC Irvine 3, Morehead State 0--Popi Edwards had 13 kills and 13 digs to lead UC Irvine (5-2).
