The first recipients of music scholarships established by the rock ‘n’ roll songwriting team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller have been awarded to two recent Hamilton High Academy of Music graduates, drummer Trevor Ira Lawrence and trombonist Carlos A. Perez.
The two will use their $10,000, four-year ASCAP Leiber and Stoller Music Scholarships to study at USC.
Both members of the songwriting team--responsible for such hits as “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Yakety Yak,” “Stand by Me” and “Is That All There Is”--graduated from Los Angeles city schools.
