Two nurses outwitted a prison escapee by persuading him to get into their car trunk so they could drive him to safety. They went straight to police instead.

Donald Watts, 18, fled the Wacol Correctional Center a week ago. Police said Watts on Thursday broke into a house shared by Leanne Bowman and Caitlin Conroy, a pair of 22-year-old nurses.

After Watts told the women he was desperate to escape the police cordon, Conroy said she offered to put him in the trunk of her car and drive him out of their suburb.

“He said ‘Good idea,’ ” Bowman said. “He was so desperate he would have done anything. I think he was pretty stupid.”
