Mt. San Antonio Grinds Past Orange Coast, 13-2

Mt. San Antonio defeated Orange Coast College, 13-2, in a community college football game in front of 1,800 Saturday night at Mt. SAC.

The Pirates had seven turnovers, five fumbles and two interceptions.

OCC quarterback Josh Gingrich threw for 147 yards, completing 13 of 21 passes with two interceptions. Tight end Brian Higgins caught seven of the passes for 62 yards and teammate Eric Washington rushed for 75 yards in 18 carries.

Orange Coast scored first, when a bad snap by Mounties’ center John Ludwiczak through the end zone for a safety that gave the Pirates a 2-0 lead with 32 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

The Mounties’ scored on their second possession of the second quarter. When the drive stalled on the five-yard line, kicker Andy Norell connected on a 22-yard field goal with 8:05 left in the quarter.

The Mounties increased their lead when Brandon Stott connected with wide receiver Duane Williams on an 11-yard touchdown pass with 59 seconds left in the first half, to make the score, 10-2. The final score came on the Mounties’ second possession in the third quarter. Norell kicked a 41-yard field goal with 1:48 left in the game, to make the score 13-2.
