A man was shot to death early Wednesday in a Sylmar bar and another man surrendered to police later in the day in connection with the shooting, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Ramon C. Mendez, 34, of Sylmar was killed about 1:25 a.m. in the James Boy bar at 13030 Glenoaks Blvd., said Lt. Wayne Woolway. Witnesses told police that “a guy just came in and shot” the victim, Woolway said.
Frank Koshak, 38, of Sylmar turned himself in at the Foothill Station at 7:15 p.m., said Detective Jim Boissier. Koshak apparently had been dating the sister of Mendez’s estranged girlfriend, Boissier said.
Koshak had called detectives earlier in the day and told them he wanted to surrender. He later turned up at the station on his own, Boissier said.
