SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Two suspects arrested in Washington state in connection with the fatal shooting of a Fullerton Union High School student as he walked home from school last week refused to return to California on Thursday and were scheduled for an extradition hearing, police said.

Thien Nguyen (Jimmy) Dao, 20, of Fullerton and Sieu Phong (Tom) Ngo, 19, of Rowland Heights, who were arrested and charged Tuesday with the shooting death of 15-year-old Angel Gonzalez last Friday, refused to waive extradition during a court hearing in Thurston County, Wash., police said. They will continue to be held without bail in Washington pending an Oct. 22 extradition hearing, police said.

A 15-year-old who was arrested with Dao and Ngo is also being held in Washington, but no date has been set for his extradition hearing, police said. His name has not been released because of his age.

Two other suspects, No Muhamed, 20, and his 18-year-old brother, Usumang Muhamed, are still being sought in Thurston County, police said.

Police believe that the five fled to Washington after fatally shooting Gonzalez on the front lawn of a dental office about a block from school.

The suspects are members of two Asian gangs, police said. Gonzalez reportedly associated with members of a Latino gang, police said. They believe the shooting was gang-related.
