BURBANK : Driver Killed as Car Hits Tree at Ramp
A suspected drunk driver was killed early Friday morning when his sports car went out of control and slammed into a tree on the transition road from the Ventura to Golden State freeways, California Highway Patrol officers said.
Raymond Guiffre, 44, of Burbank died at the scene of the accident shortly before 1:30 a.m., CHP Officer Ed Jones said. Guiffre was traveling east on the Ventura Freeway at the transition to the southbound Golden State Freeway when he apparently lost control of his car. Guiffre, who was not wearing a seat belt, veered off the road and crashed his Nissan 300 ZX into a tree. He was ejected from the car through the windshield, Jones said.
“There was a strong odor of alcohol about him and the car,” leading officers to believe that Guiffre may have been under the influence of alcohol, Jones said.
