A man who barricaded himself in his San Diego home Friday morning was taken into police custody at noon after SWAT teams fired tear gas into the residence, authorities said.
Neighbors were evacuated from the 3900 block of Marron Street, near 60th Street and University Avenue, during the standoff.
Donnalee Tibbs, 36, called police at 3 a.m. after breaking a window at the home to escape from her ex-boyfriend. She said James Frederick Aragon, 37, had beaten her, threatened her with knives and fired shots near her feet, police said. Tibbs was treated for bruises at Alvarado Hospital.
Aragon was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, assault with a deadly weapon, battery, false imprisonment and being a felon in possession of a firearm, a police spokesman said. A .22-caliber semi-automatic pistol, five rifles and a meat cleaver were found in Aragon’s home, police said.
