Mansell Breaks Record With His 9th Victory
World champion Nigel Mansell continued to make his farewell to Formula One racing a tour to remember on Sunday.
The Briton won the Portuguese Grand Prix in Estoril to set a single-season record with nine victories. Mansell, who is leaving Formula One at the end of this season to join the IndyCar series in the United States, started on the pole and led throughout in his Williams-Renault, breaking the record of eight victories he shared with Ayrton Senna of Brazil. Senna won eight races in 1988.
The triumph was the 30th of Mansell’s career.
