CABLE-GRAMS: You’re about to hit the freeways, but you wonder which route is the best way to go. So you turn on your cable TV, and an updated color-coded map tells you which highways are the most crowded. . . . County transportation officials are now applying for a $3-million federal grant to have such a futuristic system ready by mid-1995. It would first concentrate on freeways and major streets, along with bus and rail routes.

Helene Elliott

Helene Elliott was with the Los Angeles Times’ Sports department from 1989 to 2024, first as a staff writer and then, starting in 2006, as a columnist.
