Cool Weather May Be Main Draw to Lakes

The persistent heat wave has sent game fish in most Southland lakes into deep water and inactivity, but some anglers are beating the heat by traveling to the Eastern Sierra, where fall is in bloom and rainbow trout are taking the bait.

The best reports are coming from Convict Lake, where two- and three-pound rainbows are showing regularly at the cleaning station.

Robin Coppola of Silverado weighed in a three-pounder and the Madron family of four camped at the lake for several days, reporting limits each day.
