Hill Beats Tate to Regain Light-Heavyweight Title
Virgil Hill reclaimed the vacant World Boxing Assn. light-heavyweight title he lost nearly 16 months ago with a unanimous decision over Frank Tate on Tuesday night.
They fought in the Bismarck, N.D., Civic Center where Hill had not lost a professional bout.
Judge Harold Letterman of New York scored the fight, 116-112; Bob Watson of Detroit, 120-109, and Jose Campos of Panama, 118-116.
Hill, 28, lost the title to Thomas Hearns in June of 1991. Hearns lost the belt earlier this year to Iran Barkley, who relinquished it to concentrate on the super-middleweight division.
