‘Something for Everyone’

Great Scot! It’s the “Great Glendora Festival.”

Scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Civic Center Plaza, the third annual festival in the hometown of the Tartans will be comprehensive--it includes a library book sale, mini-health fair, food bazaar and games for the kids.

There will also be continuous entertainment, including the Citrus College Jazz Band.

“We try to have something for everyone,” said Rona Lunde of the Chamber of Commerce, the festival’s sponsor.

There is no admission charge and, of course, residents of other communities are more than welcome. Last year’s event attracted about 10,000 people, Lunde said.

This year, fans of brochures, promotional pens and refrigerator magnets can add to their collection at the Business Showcase in the Bidwell Forum Community Room and at the Business Expo, which will be outside.

A car show, featuring new and classic vehicles and race cars, will be featured on Glendora Avenue, between Foothill Boulevard and Carroll Avenue.

Representatives of local churches and children’s organizations will sponsor game booths, such as the dunk tank run by the Pony/Colt Baseball League. They have signed up several Glendora High School coaches and Tartan football players as targets. Lunde said City Council members and planning commissioners were also asked to participate but, so far, none has formally agreed to take a chance.

Glendora residents planning on cleaning out their garages are encouraged to buy a space at the Bric-A-Brac Bazaar, instead of having a yard sale. Large varieties of other treasures will be available at the festival’s arts and crafts show.

Several other festivals are on tap in the area this weekend. See the Festivities listing in the Calendar of Events.
