BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Canseco Comments Anger La Russa
Oakland Manager Tony La Russa had one word to describe former A’s slugger Jose Canseco’s recent tirade against his former team: “Betrayal.”
After Tuesday night’s 5-0 Texas loss, Canseco called his former teammates liars and said they locked him out of their “cliques.” He also said he was called lazy when he was in pain and could not play.
La Russa said said the A’s organization supported, protected and literally lied for Canseco, adding that Canseco was “an example of everything that’s going on in the big leagues all the time.”
Cleveland center fielder Kenny Lofton has played with a broken bone in his right wrist since late July and will undergo surgery in the off-season. . . . Chicago Cub pitcher Bob Scanlan began serving a four-day suspension for an altercation with Philadelphia’s Dave Hollins.
