Michael Andretti won his sixth pole of the season, setting a track record at Pennsylvania International Raceway during qualifying for Sunday’s Bosch Spark Plug Grand Prix at Nazareth, Pa.

Andretti, who lives less than three miles from the track, turned a lap at 181.435 m.p.h. on the one-mile oval, breaking the track record of 178.740 set last year by Rick Mears.

With the point that Andretti earned for winning the pole, he moved within 10 points of current series leader Al Unser Jr. and within nine points of runner-up Bobby Rahal.
