LOS ALAMITOS : Brilliant Colors Sets Record Pace
Three-year-old filly pacer Brilliant Colors won the inaugural $75,000 California Pace Friday night in the fastest mile ever paced by a filly or mare at Los Alamitos.
Brilliant Colors drew off from entrymate Cadillacing in the stretch to win by 4 1/2 lengths in a time of 1:54 3/5.
Doug Ackerman Jr. was the winning driver and the entry, sent off as the 3-to-5 favorite, paid $3.40. Bob Sleeth drove Cadillacing.
Whimsically finished third for Ross Croghan.
Brilliant Colors fended off the strong early challenge of Farmgirl Hanover and took the field past the half in :55 3/5.
