P.J. Jones won the pole position for today’s Checker Grand Prix at Phoenix International Raceway, enabling teammate Juan Manuel Fangio to clinch the Camel GT championship.
Fangio leads Davy Jones, who needed to win the pole to stay in the running, by 49 points. When Toyota teammate P.J. Jones ran faster than Davy Jones’ 50.702-second lap (106.505 m.p.h.), Fangio locked up the season championship.
