My Old Sweetie

Share

When I lived in Berkeley in the ‘60s, I shopped at the Co-Op. It had a wonderful diet drink made with cyclamate, which Ralph Nader had taken off the market because it caused cancer in rats who drank the equivalent of 900 cans a day! I’ve been furious at Nader ever since.

I can’t remember the name of the drink, but it came from either Sweden or Norway. It was delicious. Very unlike any of the soft drinks around today.

Question: Does anyone know what it was, and is it available anywhere today with some sweetener that Nader hasn’t had banned?
