Century Manages to Stop Troy for First Victory of Season
Century held off a late rally to notch its first victory of the season, beating Troy, 21-14, in a nonleague game Thursday night at Fullerton High School.
The Centurions (1-3-1) had a 14-0, fourth-quarter lead when Troy quarterback Brian Logan started connecting with his receivers to bring the Warriors (2-3) back into the game. It took a 91-yard, fourth-quarter kickoff return by the Centurions’ Abel Perez after the first Troy touchdown to provide the winning margin.
“The monkey’s off our back, finally,” Century Coach Bill Brown said. “This will really give the kids a boost going into the league with a win.”
Century quarterback Ricky Odoardi, who ran for 110 yards in 13 carries and passed for another 84, engineered both Centurion scoring drives in the second quarter. His 49-yard run set up Joe Gomez’s three-yard touchdown run, and Odoardi’s 13-yard scoring pass to Perez with 18 seconds left before halftime made the score 14-0.
