COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NATION : Huskies Bench 17-0 Hobert
Coach Don James of top-ranked Washington moved Mark Brunell ahead of Billy Joe Hobert at quarterback Monday.
Brunell, a senior, will start in place of Hobert, a junior, on Saturday when the 5-0 Huskies play at 3-3 Oregon. Washington has a 19-game winning streak, including 17-0 with Hobert as its starting quarterback. James said Brunell outplayed Hobert during Washington’s 35-16 victory over California on Saturday.
South Carolina’s football team voted overwhelmingly to ask coach Sparky Woods to resign, a Charleston, S.C., television station reported. The Gamecocks (0-5) have a nine-game losing streak--longest in the nation among Division I-A teams. Woods said he did not intend to resign.
