Timberwolves Sign Laettner
Christian Laettner became the highest-paid player in Minnesota Timberwolves’ history Wednesday when he signed a six-year, $21.6-million contract in Minneapolis.
Ed Tiryakian, one of Laettner’s agents, said the Duke All-American will make $2.1 million as a rookie, with the salary increasing annually. He will make $5 million in the contract’s final year. All money is guaranteed.
Laettner will travel with the Timberwolves to Grand Forks, N.D., for tonight’s exhibition opener against the New Jersey Nets. He was the third pick overall in the draft.
