GLENDALE : Group at Halfway Point in Music Program Effort

Share

A group of parents has raised $15,000 to forestall a severe cutback of the Glendale Unified School District’s elementary music program, but is only halfway to its goal.

Music in Motion promised the board of education in June that it would come up with $30,000 by November. Accepting the pledge, the board cut $41,000 from the program, but agreed to cancel the layoffs of two of the district’s four music instructors, who work with 1,500 students at 19 elementary schools. The remaining $11,000 is to be made up by rental of instruments to students.

The first half of their pledge was donated by PTAs and community groups, organizers said. They appealed for donations from the public to help meet the deadline.
