CHESS RESULTS : Fischer Old Self in Endgame, Leads 8-4

Bobby Fischer scored the eighth victory of his $5-million chess match against Boris Spassky on Saturday in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Fischer, leading 8-4, needs only two more victories to take the winner’s share of $3.35 million, the largest chess prize ever.

Fischer squeezed out his victory from a difficult ending in Saturday’s 21st game. Formerly the world’s greatest endgame player, Fischer showed his old form in the eight-hour battle.
