TENNIS ROUNDUP : Navratilova, Sabatini Will Play for Title in Germany

Martina Navratilova will spend her 36th birthday trying to add another victory to her tournament-record 160.

The third-seeded American took only 51 minutes Saturday to defeat Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to today’s final of the $350,000 Porsche Grand Prix tournament at Filderstadt, Germany.

Navratilova will play top-seeded Gabriela Sabatini of Argentina, who beat fourth-seeded Mary Joe Fernandez, 7-5, 6-2.

“Hopefully the party will come after the match,” said Navratilova, five-time winner of the event.

Sabatini rallied from a 5-2 first-set deficit to beat fourth-seeded Fernandez.

Ivan Lendl and Henrik Holm won semifinal matches to advance to the final of the Seiko Super tennis tournament at Tokyo.

Fifth-seeded Lendl overpowered second-seeded Michael Chang, 6-3, 6-4.

Holm, the 14th-seeded Swede, had 10 aces to help him defeat eighth-seeded Alexander Volkov of Russia, 7-5, 6-2.

Jeff Tarango defeated Stephane Simian of France, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, to win the Riklis Israel Tennis Center Classic at Tel Aviv.

Tarango reached the final by upsetting top-seeded Thomas Muster of Austria in Friday’s semifinals.

Unseeded Thomas Enquist upset second-seeded Andrei Cherkasov of Russia, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), to move into the final of Italy’s Bolzano Indoor tournament.

The Swedish teen-ager will play Arnaud Boetsch of France in today’s championship match. Fifth-seeded Boetsch defeated countryman Olivier Delaitre, 7-6, 7-5.

Ken Rosewall of Australia and Tom Gullikson of Palm Coast, Fla., won the Jeep Eagle ATP Senior Tour championship at Ponte Verda, Fla., by defeating Australian Rod Laver and Great Britain’s John Lloyd, 6-1, 6-2.

The match lasted only 53 minutes.
