Country music queen Tammy Wynette’s scheduled performances Saturday night at the Irvine Barclay Theatre were canceled because of illness.

The 50-year-old singer, who is celebrating her 25th year in country music, was hospitalized Wednesday in Tucson with bronchial asthma after becoming ill following a series of performances in Laughlin, Nev. A publicist with Wynette’s record label, CBS Sony, said the singer has often been ill this past year because she has kept up a full touring schedule while recovering from surgery.

Along with the Irvine shows, Wynette also canceled appearances in Hayward, Calif., but is expected to resume performing Tuesday in Raleigh, N.C. No new date has been scheduled for the Irvine shows, which were to have benefited Irvine Temporary Housing. Ticket holders may seek refunds at the place of purchase.
