REGIONAL : Rains Slow Work at Metrolink Stations
The light showers that fell Wednesday hampered efforts to complete last-minute work on Metrolink commuter-rail stops in Santa Clarita and the San Fernando Valley, but will not delay opening of the facilities on Monday, officials said.
“It has frustrated the efforts, but we plan to open on Monday,” said Gail Foy, spokeswoman for the city of Santa Clarita.
Construction on many stations and train platforms has been behind schedule, forcing builders to work long hours and weekends. The rain temporarily halted work at most stops Wednesday.
In Burbank, workers were pouring concrete for the passenger platform when the rain began. A Burbank city official said the concrete was in place and covered with a canvas before showers fell. The rain, however, kept workers from painting and completing other minor jobs.
In Chatsworth, workers continued to pour cement for posts near the tracks, despite the rain.
“If the rain stays light, we should be in no trouble,” said Gray Crary, a county rail planner.
