SAN DIEGO : Another Pedestrian Killed on I-5

A motorist traveling north on Interstate 5 early Saturday found a 36-year-old San Diego the body of a man on the side of the road, the second pedestrian hit and killed on I-5 in a week, authorities said.

The victim, Michael D. Carruthers, was discovered about 4:25 a.m. on the east shoulder of northbound I-5, just south of Nobel Drive. Carruthers lived in San Diego but his family resides in Washington state, said a spokeswoman for the San Diego County Medical Examiner.

Investigators for the California Highway Patrol said they had determined that Carruthers was struck by an unidentified vehicle in what they’re labeling a hit-and-run fatality.

The spokeswoman for the medical examiner said Carruthers suffered a fractured neck and was hit in the stomach.

Just last week, a man trying to return to his car from a roadside call box was hit and killed in the No. 2 lane of northbound I-5, near the junction of Interstate 805.
