A 40-year-old Palmdale man died Sunday after he lost control of his truck in Sylmar and was thrown from the vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
The man, whose identity was withheld pending notification of relatives, was driving shortly before 3 p.m. on the transition road between the northbound San Diego Freeway and the northbound Golden State Freeway when a rear tire separated from the truck’s axle, CHP Officer Steve Cortes said.
The truck swerved into an embankment and climbed about 25 feet before losing momentum and flipping over repeatedly as it dropped back down the embankment, Cortes said.
The driver, who apparently was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown through the windshield and crushed by the truck.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, Cortes said.
