A memorial service will be held today for a veteran Los Angeles motorcycle officer who died of injuries he suffered while chasing a suspected traffic violator in Van Nuys.
Officer Raymond A. (Skip) Messerly Jr., 42, of Acton died of massive trauma to the head and neck after he was taken off life support Thursday at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, police said.
The service for Messerly will be held at 11 a.m. at Grace Community Church, 13428 Roscoe Blvd. in Panorama City.
Messerly is survived by his wife, Dorothy and their six children, including 11-year-old triplets.
A trust fund has been established for the children. Donations can be sent to the Messerly Children’s Trust Fund, Security Pacific National Bank, 26811 N. Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus 91350.
