Kicker Might Have Place in Record Book
Sandy Tregarthen, the second-string kicker on the Harbor College football team who kicked an extra point the Seahawks’ 24-21 victory over Compton on Saturday, is believed to have been the first woman to score in a community college football game.
The sophomore from San Pedro High replaced Jon Williams on the Seahawks’ first extra-point attempt. Williams, a sophomore, was injured in practice before the game. He returned to handle the kicking duties for the remainder of the game.
Although there is no record of a woman scoring in a community college football game, the JC Athletic Bureau’s Fred Baer believes that Tregarthen is the first.
