At least St. Louis Blues Coach Bob Plager went out a winner Thursday night. Right after the Blues won, 6-4, to stop the 10-game unbeaten streak of the Pittsburgh Penguins, he quit, ending a coaching career of 11 games.

Plager, who has been with the Blues since 1967, will return to the front office. St. Louis is 4-6-1, and Jack Quinn, Blues’ president, said Plager was troubled by his team’s problems. Plager will be replaced by Bob Berry, who formerly coached the Kings, Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins.

“We’re very appreciative of what Bob’s done,” Quinn said. “It’s been a tough beginning for him and he felt it’s what he should do.”
