Meanings in O.C. Turnout for Clinton

Share

Bill Clinton’s tremendously successful Oct. 22 rally at the Pacific Amphitheatre was an opportunity for large numbers of local Democrats to come out of the closet (“O.C. Voters Rally Around Clinton,” Oct. 23). It was also an opportunity for Republicans to publicly express their dissatisfaction with the policies of the current Administration.

But it was more. It represented a change for this previously ultra-homogeneous county. Because, until recently, so many people seemed to vote the same way and think the same way, Republicans ruled the boardrooms as well as the polls. And liberals were afraid to express their views for fear of losing their jobs or accounts. But this kind of political monarchy is finally changing.
