BURBANK : Books for Sale in Library Fund-Raiser

Share

The Burbank Library is selling about 20,000 books this week in an effort to raise money for youth reading programs and to get rid of excess volumes.

The book sale at the main library at 110 N. Glenoaks Blvd. started Monday when about 150 people spent $1,400 on used books, said Sandra Christopher, assistant library director.

The sale continued Tuesday as about 50 people browsed through the second-floor auditorium and were able to purchase many paperbacks for 25 cents a copy and hardback volumes for as low as $1--even recent releases such as Anne Tyler’s 1991 novel “Saint Maybe.”

“A lot of them are donated books, books that are out of date or just books we don’t have room for any more,” Christopher said.

“We keep whatever we can use and then we sell what we can’t.”

The library raised about $3,500 in a sale about six months ago, Christopher said.

But she expects to exceed that amount easily this year. “All the money we raise goes right back into the library,” she said.

The library’s book sale is scheduled to continue today and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
