VENTURA : Businessman Fined Over Window Tints

Share

A Ventura businessman has agreed to pay $2,000 in fines to settle a civil lawsuit alleging that he illegally applied dark tint to customers’ car and truck windows, officials said Wednesday.

Greg Heffelfinger, owner of Show Quality Motoring Accessories on Bunsen Avenue in Ventura, also agreed to stop the practice without admitting any wrongdoing, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Gregory Brose.

The civil complaint alleged that Show Quality Motoring illegally tinted the side and rear windows of cars and trucks in violation of state vehicle codes.

California law prohibits side windows next to the driver of a vehicle from transmitting less than 70% light.

The same standard applies to the rear window unless the vehicle has both and left and right side mirrors.

Heffelfinger’s business applied tinting to vehicles in violation of the codes, the suit said.

Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury said his Consumer and Environmental Protection Division filed the lawsuit against Show Quality Motoring because illegally tinted windows reduce motorists’ ability to see.
