Gunfire killed one San Diego County teen-ager and wounded two other boys and a man in less than 12 hours over the weekend, police said.

Just before 3 a.m. Sunday, San Diego police responded to a call at Palm Avenue and Saturn Boulevard in the Nestor area and found citizens performing CPR on 19-year-old Carlos Antonio Padilla of San Diego, authorities said.

Padilla, who died at the scene, was shot in the chest as he was driving, a police spokesman said. Witnesses said they heard a loud popping noise and saw Padilla’s car crash into a fire hydrant on the corner. They also said they heard a car speeding away, its tires squealing.

On Saturday evening, a 14-year-old San Diego boy was shot in the chest while riding his bike east on Market Street at 45th Street, police said. Jarrod Blackman was shot about 7:10 p.m. when a car crossed the center divider and a passenger leaned out and fired, police said.

Jarrod was in good condition Sunday at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego.

Three hours earlier, in the 4000 block of 49th Street in San Diego, a 21-year-old man was shot in the liver and arm during a confrontation believed to be gang-related, police said. The man, listed in good condition at Mercy Hospital, was one of three who were arguing with another group of men when the shooting occurred, authorities said.

Farther north, in Escondido, a 17-year-old Oceanside boy was shot at 12:50 a.m. Sunday by someone in a dark blue Chevy Blazer as he stood in the parking lot of a Taco Bell at 627 North Escondido Boulevard, authorities said.

He was taken to Palomar Medical Center with a bullet wound in his left thigh, an Escondido police spokesman said.
