Grover City is no more, and residents bent on capitalizing on the Central Coast city’s biggest asset are happy as a clam.

The tally from last week’s election is official. By 96 votes--2,275 to 2,179--residents of Grover City decided to change the city’s name to Grover Beach.

They hope the change will lure tourists who bypass the city and head for neighboring Pismo Beach, famous for its clams and sand dunes.

“We want to make the town a tourist attraction. We’re going to make it a nice place to live and a nice place for people to visit,” Councilwoman Lowell Forister said.
