Countywide : Development Center Reduces Its Hours

Share

A drop in building activity in Orange County has prompted the County Environmental Management Agency to shorten the hours of its Development Processing Center. Beginning Monday, the public counter will be open afternoons only from noon until 4:30 p.m. It had been open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Over the past four years, building permits have decreased steadily in Orange County, planning officials say.

The recession and the incorporation of cities has led to a drop-off in building activity in the unincorporated areas.

Earlier this year, the agency closed its South County regional branch office in Laguna Hills and transferred those operations to the main Santa Ana office. Only 400 permits were processed in September after the two offices were merged. That’s about half the number issued for the same period last year.

Residents and builders seeking further information should call the Development Processing Center at (714) 834-2079.
