One person died and at least three others were injured in a head-on collision in front of Estancia High School Friday night, police said.

Details were still sketchy, but according to Lt. Ron Smith of Costa Mesa Police Department, the cars collided head-on in the 2300 block of Placentia Avenue shortly before 10 p.m.

One of the cars apparently crossed the dividing line, Smith said.

None of the victims has been identified. At least one was taken to UCI Medical Center’s trauma center, and another went to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

The crash occurred just after a football game and as a post-game dance was about to begin. Assistant Principal Mimi Birch said the dance was canceled because of the accident.
