Beschen Wins Heat in Surf Tournament
Shane Beschen of San Clemente, the current points leader on the Bud Surf Tour, won his second-round heat of the Ventura Fairgrounds championships Friday at Ventura.
Beschen, who has qualified for the 1993 ASP World Tour, must finish seventh or better to clinch the Bud Surf Tour title.
Terence McNulty of San Juan Capistrano and Dino Andino of San Clemente also won their second-round heats.
Former three-time world champion Tom Curren of Santa Barbara withdrew from the competition.
