No. 11 Florida Slips Past South Carolina
Shane Matthews scored on a quarterback sneak and threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Aubrey Hill to lead No. 11 Florida to a 14-9 victory over South Carolina Saturday.
Florida extended the nation’s second-longest home winning streak to 18 games.
Florida (7-2 overall, 5-2 in Southeastern Conference, has won its last three games by a combined 11 points and is within one victory of clinching a berth in the inaugural SEC championship game. The Gators have won six in a row.
South Carolina (4-6, 3-5) lost for the first time since freshman Steve Taneyhill became the starting quarterback after an 0-5 start. The Gamecocks had won four straight, including victories over teams (Mississippi State and Tennessee) that had beaten Florida.
