Compton : Liquor Store Owners Seek Council Approval to Rebuild
Owners of a Compton liquor store that was burned in last spring’s rioting have asked the City Council to let them rebuild.
Le Nguyet To and Gary Karlin, owners of Okinawa Liquor, asked the council Tuesday to overturn a city Planning Commission decision to revoke the store’s permit. The owners said they were unaware of any problems with the store.
But about 10 neighbors said they had complained to police or the store owners about rampant drug use, prostitution and gunfire in the store’s parking lot. The neighbors said the neighborhood has been peaceful since the store burned April 30.
