Emergency Landing Made at Lindbergh
An America West jetliner bound for Las Vegas returned to San Diego’s Lindbergh Field shortly after take-off after the cockpit filled with smoke, airline officials said Thursday. No one was injured.
Flight 341 took off about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday. At 9:57 the pilot reported smoke filling the cockpit and requested permission to make an emergency landing back in San Diego, according to airport officials.
By the time the plane had landed, most of the smoke had dissipated, authorities said. Emergency rescue personnel were standing by for the landing but were not needed.
More than 120 passengers were aboard the Boeing 737.
The cause of the smoke was not immediately clear and was still under investigation, authorities said.
