PORT HUENEME : Marine Safety Panel Seeks Comments

Share

A committee formed to improve marine safety and reduce the risk of oil spills at the Port of Hueneme is seeking public comments on a new plan to implement improvements.

Under terms of the state’s Oil Spill Prevention and Response Act of 1990, harbor safety committees were appointed for five major California ports, including the Port of Hueneme.

They were asked to develop individual safety plans, according to the state Department of Fish and Game.

The Port Hueneme Harbor Safety Committee was appointed last year and submitted its safety plan to the state in August.

The plan has been reviewed and accepted by the state, but public comments are being solicited and final approval will not be granted before public review.

A public workshop on the plan is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Port of Hueneme in the Oxnard Harbor District Office, 105 Hueneme Road, Port Hueneme.

Copies of the safety plan are available by contacting William J. Buenger, executive secretary of the Port Hueneme Harbor Safety Committee, at P.O. Box 608, Port Hueneme 93044, (805) 488-3677.

The deadline for sending written comments on the plan is Nov. 30.

All comments should be sent to Al Storm, environmental specialist, at the Department of Fish and Game, 1416 9th St., P.O. Box 944209, Sacramento 94244-2090.
