PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Golic No Longer in Shell’s Plans
Bob Golic might have played his final down for the Raiders.
The 35-year-old Golic, a 14-year veteran, has not been activated for the last two games.
Wednesday, Coach Art Shell indicated that, barring injury, there are no plans to change that.
“He’s not a starter,” Shell said of Golic. “We are moving in a different direction.”
Shell called former Raider teammate Hewritt Dixon, who died after a long fight with cancer Wednesday, one of the greatest fullbacks in the team’s history.
“He was a great football player,” said Shell, who played with Dixon from 1968-70. “He probably is the only football player who ever played in the National Football League to get penalized for running with the football and knocking people on their behinds (with a forearm shiver).”
