Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

‘Panther’ Redux: The Pink Panther will return--to TV. MGM said it will produce “The Pink Panther,” its first animated series since the 1950s, for next fall. But the ‘90s panther will be a different kind of cat: The new incarnation of the formerly silent panther will talk. The old Henry Mancini theme song will still be around, though. Mirisch-Geoffrey-DePatie-Freleng, owners of the Pink Panther property, will produce the show with MGM; Claster Television will distribute it. Pink Panther creators Friz Freleng and David DePatie will serve as consultants. MGM has more pink action ahead: Next summer the studio releases Blake Edwards’ film, “Son of the Pink Panther.”
