Bruce and Demi Sighted in Kentucky

Re “Celebrity Intrusions” (“Social Climes,” Nov. 15): At least Nancy Spiller was in California when Bruce Willis and Demi Moore unexpectedly “intruded” in her local restaurant, not an unlikely occurrence in this area.

I was totally chagrined when they “intruded” in Paducah, Ky., several years ago. After checking into the hotel in Paducah, I drove to Mayfield to visit my family and do some shopping, but found the town square roped off.

Upon inquiry, I was told that Bruce Willis was filming downtown and the whole community was in a dither. Forgoing my shopping, I drove back to Paducah and was attempting to purchase a book. As the young girl was ringing up my purchase, a friend of hers came running through the door to announce that Demi Moore had just been spotted in the nearby Pier 1 store.

She became so excited, it took a ridiculous amount of time to get my book and leave. Neither girl could understand why I wasn’t similarly ecstatic. I informed them that I was from Southern California and came to Kentucky to get away from this sort of thing.
