Plane Crash Kills 2 San Diegans
The wreckage of a small plane missing since Saturday with a San Diego couple aboard was found Tuesday south of the Grand Canyon, and authorities said there were no survivors.
Searchers spotted the single-engine Cessna 182 near Mesa Butte, about 20 miles south of the boundary of Grand Canyon National Park in an area of state and private land between the Coconino and Kaibab national forests, said Lt. Debra Wiecken, a spokeswoman for the Arizona Civil Air Patrol.
Wiecken identified the victims as Rob and Clara Murray, both in their 70s.
The cause of the crash had not been determined.
When the pilot last was in radio contact with a Utah airport Saturday, the plane was near the Grand Canyon and about 95 miles north of Prescott, Wiecken said.
It was returning to San Diego from Moab, Utah, and the Murrays had indicated they planned to stop in Prescott for lunch.
