PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : CHARGERS : Season Ticket-Holders Get Playoff Info

Share

How long has it been since the Chargers were host to an NFL playoff game?

The Raiders were still in Oakland. The Raiders played the Chargers in the AFC championship game on Jan. 11, 1980 in San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium.

The Chargers have a chance not only to make the playoffs this season for the first time since 1982, but also an opportunity to play a postseason game at home.

Charger season ticket-holders are receiving playoff ticket information in the mail.

The playoffs begin Jan. 2-3 with the wild-card games, and the divisional playoff games follow a week later. The AFC championship game will be Jan. 17.

If the Chargers earn home-field advantage, season ticket-holders will have the option of buying playoff tickets, but they must buy tickets for both the divisional playoff game and the championship game.

Those season ticket holders who paid $26 for their regular season tickets will be required to pay $35 for a divisional playoff game and $47 for the title game. The playoff payment deadline is 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16.

If the Chargers fail to make the playoffs or play host to a postseason game, the team will apply the playoff payment toward the purchase of season tickets next season.

The Chargers will not make playoff tickets available to the general public until they are assured of earning a spot in postseason play.

The Charger-Cardinal game might challenge the record for the smallest crowd to watch a Phoenix game in Sun Devil Stadium.

A Patriots-Cardinals’ game in 1988 attracted 26,043; The Cardinals have distributed fewer than 30,000 tickets for Sunday’s game with the Chargers.

If it’s Friday, it must be Burt Grossman’s day to be OK.

On Thursday, of course, the report was that he was hurt again, and perhaps headed for injured reserve.

On Friday, though, Coach Bobby Ross said there is now a chance he will play against the Cardinals.

Grossman has a pair of sprained ankles, and he did not play against the Raiders. “He’s 75% now,” Ross said, “but I think he will be available.”
