COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Hot-Shooting Biola Takes Care of Cold-Shooting Chapman

Share

Biola, with a 63% shooting percentage, defeated Chapman, 70-62, in a nonconference men’s basketball game Saturday at Chapman’s Hutton Center.

While Biola was hot, Chapman was decidedly not. The Panthers (1-2) shot 43% from the field but made only five of 25 three-point attempts.

The poor long-range shooting performance was actually a slight improvement over the Panthers’ last game, a 63-60 loss to Occidental in which they made one of 22 shots from beyond the three-point line.

Jeff Gardner, who entered the game averaging 25 points for the Panthers, continued to pace Chapman, scoring 21 points. He also had a game-high eight rebounds.

In the consolation game of the Disneyland/Freedom Bowl women’s basketball tournament:

La Salle 68, UC Irvine 66--Cher Scanlon, who had a team-high 14 points, made a three-pointer with six seconds remaining to pull Irvine (0-3) within 67-66. Jennifer Cole, who had 24 points for La Salle (2-1), made one free throw with 3.1 seconds remaining, and time expired before the Anteaters could take another shot.

All-tournament selection Jinelle Williams had 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Yvonne Catala had 12 points and 14 rebounds for Irvine (0-3), which led 36-26 at the half.
